Hip Hop International's Event of the Year!
The scene was off the hook at the 2006 USA Hip Hop Championship, World Hip Hop Championship and World Battle in Los Angeles, July 27-30. Over 1000 dancers congregated from around the world representing street and studio, old skool, new skool, bboys, bgirls, dance icons and celebrity choreographers, united in their passion for urban dance and with respect for the culture and each other.
Participants and judges represented over 50 USA cities and 18 countries including Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Africa, Latvia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Switzerland, Trinidad and Tobago and the United Kingdom.
In addition to the championships, Luther Brown, Don “Campbellock” Campbell, Napoleon & Tabitha and Chuck Maldonado led the Urban Moves Dance Workshops. The Funk Styles Room presented by Boogaloo Sam and Don “Campbellock” Campbell hosted lockers, poppers and classic old skoolers.
Sixteen bboy crews from as far as South Africa, Brazil and Japan competed in the World Battle, a straight up all battle competetion for bragging rights and $5,000 cash and prizes. Victorious in the final face-off was Unique Footwork Disciples (Florida) who won in a close decision over Vicious Germz (Texas). Battle Monkeys (California) placed third with Illmatic Styles (Canada) coming in fourth. Judges included battle coordinator PoeOne, Easy Rock, Viazeen, and Zulu Gremlin.
The sold out final of the 2006 World Hip Hop Championship was standing room only. 6 junior crews, 10 varsity crews and 12 adult crews remained in title contention for the world’s #1 freestyle hip-hop ccrew. Popping pioneer Boogaloo Sam was honored with the 2006 Living Legend of Hip Hop Award. Lil’ C, Miss Prissy and other recognized krumpers demonstrated. The championship concluded with the traditional presentation of the medals and the playing of the national anthems of the champions’ home countries. More than 600 people attended the after-party in honor of the 2006 World Hip Hop Champions -- USA’s Mini Shock – (Juniors), Future Shock – USA (Varsity) and All Stars (Adult) representing the Philippines.
